Robert Pollard (born October 31, 1957) is the former lead singer and songwriter for the now defunct Dayton, Ohio indie rock group Guided by Voices. He began the band as a hobby during his summer vacations. His day job was a fourth grade teacher. Despite GBV's demise, he continues to release many records with other bands and as a solo artist, often under the general title of the "Fading Captain Series".
