From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Robert Pollard (born October 31, 1957) is the former lead singer and songwriter for the now defunct Dayton, Ohio indie rock group Guided by Voices. He began the band as a hobby during his summer vacations. His day job was a fourth grade teacher. Despite GBV's demise, he continues to release many records with other bands and as a solo artist, often under the general title of the "Fading Captain Series".
