Wendy Wasserstein (October 18, 1950 - ) is an award-winning American playwright.

Born to a Jewish family in Brooklyn, New York, she is the sister of Bruce Wasserstein. She earned a B.A. in History from Mount Holyoke College in 1971 and an M.F.A. in 1976 from the Yale School of Drama.

Her plays include, Uncommon Women and Others (1977), The Heidi Chronicles, The Sisters Rosensweig, Isn’t It Romantic (1981), and An American Daughter. She also wrote the screenplay for The Object of My Affection (1998).

Awards

  • 1989:Pulitzer Prize for Drama for The Heidi Chronicles.
  • 1989:Tony Award for Best Play for The Heidi Chronicles.
