This article is about the British activist. For the Australian Politician, see Chris Hayes

Christopher Hayes (born in Gloucester, 12 March 1972) is a British political activist and lobbyist, noted for his views that combine elements of normally conflicting areas of the political spectrum.

Hayes has campaigned fiercely on a number of issues such as:

  • Tougher sentencing for criminals, including a re-introduction of capital punishment for murder, as well as more minor offences.
  • Scottish independence, for which he is a strong advocate, despite being English himself.
  • Removal of humanoid (but non-human) creatures from popular fiction. He has referred to such creatures, especially Wookiees, as "abominations" and believes that their portrayal as sympathetic characters has a negative effect on impressionable children.
  • Higher standards in the NHS, especially in urology. This is an issue of special personal interest, as Hayes has sufferered from a lifelong urinary dysfunction.

In 2002, Hayes revealed that he was gay and had been living with his long term male partner for several years. He was already a prominent and vocal figure in the campaign to legalise Gay marriage. Given his broadly right wing views, his involvement in the Gay rights movement has often confounded political commentators.
