Mylo Carbia (born November 16, 1971 in Lakewood, New Jersey) is a Puerto Rican-American screenwriter.
Mylo's parents emigrated to the United States from Puerto Rico and settled down in the tough section of Lakewood, New Jersey. Her father was the late musician, Eddie Carbia and her godfather was the actor Raul Julia. When she was 5 years old, she played the role of "Mother Goose" in a school production of Babes in Toyland. This may explain why she became interested in entertainment at a young age. Her childhood, however, was not a happy one and at times she would have to sell candies to help support her family. Her only escape from the realities of life was by writing short stories.
In 1984, she was awarded the "Young Flordian Award" for her creative writing. Mylo was and still is a fervent reader, during her elementary school years she would spend hours reading about Greek and Roman mythology. In 1986, when Mylo was 15 years old, she won 4th place for her science fair project: Inovations in Anti-Fouling Technology and was presented with medals from the Army and the Navy. In 1987, she studied tropical medicine at the Oxford University in England, during her summer vacation.
Mylo enrolled in Mercer University located in Atlanta, Georgia and during her college years she was published in two major educational journals. The first publication, was when she was 19 years old, in the "Oghorn Journal" for her work with holocaust survivors. The second publication came, when she was 20 years old, from the "Southeastern Sociological Symposium" for her work on anorexia and bulimia. Mylo starred in an off- Broadway production of "The Search for Intelligent Life in the Universe" by Jane Wagner. In 1992, at the age of 21, Mylo wrote and produced the play "The Dolly Parton Conspiracy" for which she was awarded the "Troubadour Theatrical Society's Best Play Award".
Mylo graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology from Mercer University. She was awarded a "Woodruff Foundation Full-Term Law Scholarship", however, she only attended law school for one year.
In 1996, Mylo was featured in CNN and PBS as an expert in the field of youth and family matters.
In 2001, Mylo wrote her first screenplay, "Statue of Limitations", in only 28 days. The erotic thriller earned her a three picture deal with "Global Screen Partners". The movie is now in the "post-production" process. In 2003, Mylo was featured on the October cover of "Hollywood Scriptwriters" magazine. That same year, she also landed the uncredited role of a vampire in the movie "Underworld" directed by Len Wiseman. Her musical comedy "Totally Lipstick" was released during the 2004 Christmas season and her screenplay for "Double Impact:The Initiation" is due in theatres in the summer of 2005.
Mylo founded the production company "Zohar Films" which in the future will produce her projects. She is also co-chairman of the Board for the "John Singleton Outreach Foundation".
In May 2005, Mylo and her DJ boyfriend "DJ Pruitt", a DJ from Miami, had their first child, which they named Jett James.
