From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia John D. Roberts (born November 15, 1956 in Toronto, Ontario) is a television journalist for CBS, where he has served as Chief White House Correspondent since 1999. He was widely considered a potential future replacement for CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather after Rather stepped down from the anchor desk in March 2005. However, Bob Schieffer was chosen on an interim basis to be the next CBS Evening News anchor.
Roberts grew up in Mississauga, Ontario. He attended the University of Toronto, and worked for many years in Canadian media before joining CBS in 1995. He was the cohost with Pamela Wallin of Canada AM in the early 1990s, and also worked as a reporter and anchor with Citytv and as a video jockey with MuchMusic, on which he and Christopher Ward appeared as the first on-air personalities when the network launched in 1984. In his Canadian media career, he was known as J.D. Roberts.
On July 19, 2005 he introduced CBS's coverage on the announcement of the nomination of John G. Roberts, Jr. for the Supreme Court of the United States. He has since jokingly demanded to be referred to as "Your Honor", due to them having the same name.
