From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Linda Gary (November 4, 1944-October 5, 1995) was a voice-over artist for countless animated projects.
Gary was (and still is) considered one of the most popular voice-over artists in the modern era of animation. While viewers might not have remembered her face (in fact, she only appeared in two live-action films, 1977's Journey To Nowhere and 1980's Cruising with Al Pacino), they do remember her youthful voice.
Among Gary's credits were Hanna-Barbera's Scooby-Doo and Smurfs series, Disney's Darkwing Duck and Tale Spin, Batman: The Animated Series, and three films in the Land Before Time series. She also did voice-overs for many live-action films and television series.
But the bulk of Gary's work was with the Filmation studio. Both she and good friend Ed Asner contributed to many Filmation projects, such as the He-Man and She-Ra series (she simultaneously contributed the voices of Teela, Evil-Lyn, the Sorceress and, originally, Queen Marlena), and feature film sequels such as Happily Ever After and Secret Of The Sword.
Gary passed away due to brain cancer in 1995. But today's television animated series (and the voice-over artists responsible for them) can thank Linda Gary for the influence she has brought to today's generation of television animation.
