From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Melle Mel (born Melvin Glover on May 15, 1962 in New York City, New York) is a hip-hop musician, one of the pioneers of old school hip hop as a member of Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five with his brother Kid Creole.
Mel, ghostwriter of some of Flash's lyrics, became the leader of the group in 1983, after Flash and Kid Creole left The Furious Five and Sugar Hill Records for Elektra Records. The group continued as Grandmaster Melle Mel & the Furious Five; among their most important recordings were the single "White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)" and "I Feel For You", a collaboration with Chaka Khan that helped expose hip-hop to mainstream audiences.
